The next NRA Basic Metallic
Cartridge Reloading course will be held on |
Wanted: An old-style Lee Challenger press (one without the current breech-lock system) or a used 4-station Lee turret press is wanted for use during the reloading courses. If you have either in excellent condition just sitting around and you would be interested in selling, please contact Eric immediately.
The latest news from the rifle range is that the new full-width, flat, 100-yard field has been shaped and graded. The range now has a very gentle grade to prevent ponding. Seeding is pending (and may be delayed by the approach of the hot, dry summer season). It's looking really great and has been a long time coming. Note that the covered pavilion is roped off and closed as additional improvements are made. A single shooting position is available on the far right of the shooting line.
Due to the high cost and scarcity of ammunition, there is no official PPC League this summer!
However there will be PPC-style Summer Defensive Pistol Practice every Thursday, beginning July 2 and ending August 27. Using the same 30-round format as last summer, each relay will cost only $2. There will be no prize drawings and no grand prize. There will be a picnic on September 3, but everyone attending will pay - still a great bargain. As in the past, all new shooters must fire the course sometime during the first three weeks of the program when coaching will be available. Note that this program is not open to the general public. Watch your newsletter or check your e-mail for an official announcement/invitation. Contact Randy for additional information.
Thursday Night Summer Outdoor Bullseye Pistol Practice has ended. See you in the fall (September 10) when the fall indoor program begins. Summer League score and averages are posted and will remain available for about a month. View your scores and average.
You want to learn how to reload. OSC offers NRA Basic Reloading courses. The next Metallic Cartridge Reloading class will be July 13-15. Limited seating. Pre-registration is required. $50.
Outdoor Light Rifle shooting on Monday evenings is extended for an additional 2 weeks, continuing now through July 13. The program is conducted on the bullseye pistol range, 6 to 7 pm, .22 rimfire rifle, any action, any sights, 30 (?) rounds minimum. All shooting is from the standing position, 25 yard range. For additional information contact Ron or check the rifle committee website .
Enrollment remains open for the NRA Basic Metallic Cartridge Reloading and the NRA Basic Shotgun Shell Reloading courses. These courses are for beginners. The metallic cartridge course will cost $50; the shot shell course will cost $35. ($10 discount if taking both courses.) Prospective students should visit the course information page to learn more and to submit an enrollment form. Students should also submit the registration survey. Contact Eric if you have questions not addressed on the course information page. Note that the course schedule is being revised and can be adapted to the needs of the students. We are likely to meet for classroom sessions either 3 times in one week or 1 evening over three consecutive weeks. Class sizes are limited. When all spots are full, we start!
Approved at the February 17 meeting was a Multiple Voucher Reward Program. Members who earn more than a single service voucher in a calendar year will be eligible to attend a special banquet and have chances to win multiple prizes valued up to $1000 (depending on participation and the future economic situation). You will earn one prize chance entry for every additional voucher earned over your first required voucher. See the March Chariot for additional details.
The first order of business at the January 20, 2009 annual meeting was dedication of the indoor range in memory of Warren F. Witzig. To say that Warren was involved with planning and construction of the range would be an understatement; Warren's tireless commitment was vital in securing the funding essential for this massive project. Naming our indoor range in his memory is a fitting honor for his service to the OSC and his dedication to the future of the shooting sports. Two commemorative plaques have been installed.
The Buckeye Firearms Association offers a free Gun Facts e-book. Help debunk gun control myths and win any debate with this excellent 102-page reference. Download the .PDF format document (807 kb) by clicking on the image.
Executive Committee Members: A copy of the Accounts Receivable/Payable Worksheet is available here. This form must be used with all financial transactions. The scheduled dates of Range Reservations (and closings) has been updated through August.

All members are reminded that their guests must sign in (print their full name and sign) at the membership information center and sign-in kiosk before shooting and hunting. Each guest must pay the $3 guest fee. Follow the instructions on the sign-in form: print and sign names, one name per block, list ranges used, indicate fees paid. Guests must be escorted at all times. Failure to comply with this requirement is a serious infraction of your membership agreement and is subject to severe sanction. (For your privacy and security, members need only sign in using their Member Number and first name, BUT GUESTS MUST USE THEIR COMPLETE NAME.)
To join the OSC you must apply in person. The best way to join is to become active in an OSC shooting or training program. You'll need membership sponsors anyhow, so show up, get acquainted, and get active. Have your sponsor obtain the application for you, or come to a club meeting to apply in person.
Visit the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General Firearms Reciprocity Agreements web site for current information on carrying firearms into other states.
Note: In an effort to reduce clutter, announcements which are more than 3 months old but may still be applicable have been move to a separate page. Go to Old Announcements to read the old stuff.
