| Did you know.... | |
| The NRA reports that according to the latest data (2008) compiled by the National Center for Health Statistics, the firearm accidental death rate has fallen to an all-time low of 0.19 deaths per 100,000 --- 592 deaths in 2008. | The NRA now has 73,000 certified firearm instructors. |
| The Eddie Eagle gun safety program has reached more than 25 million children since it's inception in 1988. | |
| Despite a steady increase in the U.S. population and record-setting firearm sales, firearm accidents accounted for only 0.5% of all fatal accidents --- a record low. | You

of the Pennsylvania Instant Check System by the state police for a

Saturday, May 19 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 22. The shutdown
effectively suspends all firearms transactions and concealed carry
license processing. |
Do not drink the water at the clubhouse until further notice.
The water at the OSC clubhouse was tested and found to contain coliform bacteria (18 probable colonies per 100 mL). To be safe, health standards specify that drinking water should have no detectable coliform bacteria. Most coliform bacteria are harmless, but their presence indicates that there is pathway for potentially harmful bacteria to enter and contaminate the water supply. Our water contains no detectable E. coli bacteria, and extremely low (safe) levels of other trace contaminants, including arsenic, cadmium, chromium, mercury, and lead.
The complete analysis report will be posted here for you to read in a few days.Congratulations! Lisa Hilbert

New sign-in sheets at now in use at the kiosk. Please follow the instructions for your own good!
Some new features:
* All family members should use their family membership nulber with the "F" designation.
* All guests must print AND sign their full name, and identify their sponsoring member by
writing "Guest of #XXX in the member number box. (XXX is the sponsor's member number.)
* There is now a checkbox to mark if you are a minor.
* The guest "Fee Paid" box has moved, and it should indicate a dollar amount corresponding to
the cash you place into the cash box. (The guest range fee is $5.)
Continue to drink only bottled water at the club. A "flash" chlorine treatment and a re-test should address the immediate problem. A UV treatment system is being considered for a permanent solution. Ultimately, a new well will be the long-term solution. (Ironically, a new well is part of the long-term range development plan as part of the new non-firearm range complex.)
It is important that every member be familiar with the safety rules and the unique regulations at each of the ranges.
Family Members: When you sign in at the kiosk, remember to include the "F" designation as part of your member number.
Thursday evening Spring/Summer Outdoor Bullseye shooting began on April 19. A SINGLE relay at 6:00 pm. 60 rounds; 25-yard and (optional) 50-yard slow fire; 25-yard timed and rapid fire. $3 per relay. All positions are open but may be reserved by simply paying for the balance of the season. The 11-week program runs through June 28. Contact Randy for additional information.
Smallbore Metallic Silhouette begins May 7 on the rifle range at 6:15 pm. Targets at 40, 60, 77, and 100 yards. Any rimfire rifle, any action, any sights. $30 fee for the season; $10 for Juniors. The program runs every Monday evening through June 25. Contact Ron or visit the Rifle Committee web site for additional information.
Action/Defensive Handgun events move outdoors on May 5 and June 2. IDPA categories, rules, and scoring. Registration limited to 24 shooters (plus RO's). Priority is being given to participants who register for both events. Registration forms are being e-mailed to frequent shooters in this program. Mandatory safety meeting prior to the first relay. More details to follow. Contact Randy for additional information.
The Range Development Committee is accepting ideas for future projects and activities at OSC. (Don't wait too long to do this because the ideas proposed already are very exciting!) Contact Bob to submit your thoughts or for additional information.
If you've ever wondered how many members are using your favorite range at OSC, you can check out the range usage statistics for yourself.
As of February 4, gate security became fully operational. Access to the club requires your permanent membership card. Access via the current annual member (clubhouse) code has been retired; however, access to the clubhouse will continue to use the 4-digit code. (The clubhouse code number will not change this year.)
Private, personal, individual gate orientations require a $20 donation to the club general fund.
Please check your range box/bag. If you have a green empty chamber flag which says "Property of OSC", please return it or pay for it!
Membership in OSC is now full with 150 voting members. Applicants for new membership will now be placed on a waiting list. Your membership is valuable. Be active and follow the rules!
Some members bring guests up to the club, mark the $5 guest fee paid box in the sign-in book, but put no money into the cash box. To those making this a habit:
Do not act surprised when your name comes up during the Executive Committee meeting!
All shooters will want to check the Range Reservations page when planning your visits to the ranges. 2012 events are starting to be listed. It takes awhile, and it mostly involves waiting for everyone to share their plans. Program chairmen: Please submit your 2012 event schedule ASAP.
The 2012 Schedule of Events is just getting set up. It takes awhile, and it mostly involves waiting for everyone to share their plans. The listing includes all pistol and select rifle, shotgun, and training events. Program chairmen: Please submit your 2012 event schedule ASAP.
Contact Mark to arrange for a trap range orientation. There is a $10 fee to obtain a trap access card, and targets can be purchased at the standard rate of $20 per 100. Mark requests if you need to purchase additional targets to contact him in order to arrange to meet him with the card programmer unit.
To purchase targets for the trap range or for more information, contact Mark.
Find something wrong at the club? Report a Problem to Building & Grounds.
(The Problem Report form now includes the Access Gate and the Trap Field.)
Inactive indoor range users and former members have an opportunity to return their access key fobs for a full refund of their range orientation fee. Check the key fob buyback page or contact Eric for additional information.
The Outdoor Range User Fee for guests is $5 .
(This is the fee which each of your guests must pay when they sign in at the kiosk.)
OSC members have free and unlimited daytime access to the outdoor ranges.
The Indoor Range Hourly Rate is $17 for individual users (members with access fobs) and $22 for groups.
Guests of indoor range users must pay for 1 hour of range time at the current hourly rate ($17 ).
Empty Chamber Indicators are available on the indoor range for use during weekly organized pistol and rifle events. Please do not take the club's flags which are marked "Property of OSC".
Empty chamber flags are available for sale to OSC members on the indoor range during weekly events. (They're in a plastic bag; $1 each.) New shooters (and anyone else who needs a replacement or a few extra) are encouraged to acquire their own flags -- consider them as accessories essential for any organized event. I recommend one for every firearm you use in competition; pack it with the firearm so, like your magazines, you always have it when you need one. OSC members can order empty chamber flags here. Two styles are available.
NOTICE: Due to frequent abuses, Empty Chamber Indicator order requests will no longer be accepted from non-members vie e-mail. Members are welcome to copy the order form and request an order via mail or in person during a weekly indoor range event.
The scheduled dates of Range Reservations (and closings) has been updated through April.
Enrollment is available for the next NRA Basic Metallic Cartridge Reloading and the NRA Basic Shotgun Shell Reloading courses. When enough students enroll and agree on a class meeting time, we'll run. These courses are for beginners. The metallic cartridge course will cost $60 ; the shot shell course will cost $45 . ($10 discount if taking both courses.) Prospective students should visit the course information page to learn more and to submit an enrollment form. Students should also submit the registration survey. Contact Eric if you have questions not addressed on the course information page. Note that the course schedule is adapted to the needs of the students. We are likely to meet for classroom sessions either 3 times in one week or 1 evening over three consecutive weeks. Class sizes are limited. When all spots are full, we start!
The Buckeye Firearms Association offers a free Gun Facts e-book. Help debunk gun control myths and win any debate with this excellent 102-page reference. Download the .PDF format document (807 kb) by clicking on the image.
Executive Committee Members: A copy of the Accounts Receivable/Payable Worksheet is available here. This form must be used with all financial transactions. No more excuses for the perpetual shortage of paper forms at the clubhouse! You can download the .PDF format document (41 kb) by right-clicking the link above.
Visit the Rifle Committee's web site for scores and the latest information on OSC rifle events: www.freewebs.com/oscrifle.
REMINDER: All centerfire handgun shooters on the indoor range must use designated centerfire backers. Since .22 ONLY backers are in place on a day-by-day basis, those desiring to shoot centerfire will need to swap their backer for a centerfire backer, then replace the .22 ONLY backer when they are finished. Shooters wishing to fire both .22 and centerfire during one session can fire both on a centerfire backer.
This rule has been published in the June, July, and August 2010 issues of The Chariot and is posted at the entrance to the indoor range. Consult The Chariot for the precise text to this rule.
All members are reminded that their guests MUST sign in (print their full name and sign) at the membership information center and sign-in kiosk before shooting and hunting.
Each guest must pay the $5 guest fee.
Follow the instructions on the sign-in form: print and sign names, one name per block, list ranges used, indicate fees paid. Guests must be escorted at all times. Failure to comply with this requirement is a serious infraction of your membership agreement and is subject to severe sanction. (For your privacy and security, members need only sign in using their Member Number and first name, BUT GUESTS MUST USE THEIR COMPLETE NAME.)
To join the OSC you must apply in person. The best way to join is to become active in an OSC shooting or training program. You'll need membership sponsors anyhow, so show up, get acquainted, and get active. Have your sponsor obtain the application for you, or come to a club meeting to apply in person.
Note that membership in the Outdoor Sportsman's Club is limited to 150 voting members.
New applicants are currently being placed in a waiting list.
Visit the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General Firearms Reciprocity Agreements web site for current information on carrying firearms into other states.
Note: In an effort to reduce clutter, announcements which are more than 3 decades old but may still be applicable have been move to a separate page. Go to Old Announcements to read the old stuff.
