Please note the following announcements and upcoming events:

The OSC Indoor Youth Program up and running!

We want to buy back your indoor range key fob.

Weather Advisory
By tradition, scheduled shooting events are conducted regardless of the weather.
But some OSC activities are subject to change due to weather and unforeseen circumstances, namely power interruptions.  If you have a lengthy drive to the club but suspect there may be a power problem, you are advised to call the clubhouse (355-4440).  If the answering machine responds, then at least you know the power is on.

The Outdoor Sportsman's Club

is a 100% NRA Member club.

Outdoor Range
Hours of Operations

Security Reminders:

Lock your unattended vehicle while at the club!

And keep the clubhouse door LOCKED if you are alone in the clubhouse or using the indoor range.

Some wisdom from the past....
The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.

--- Thomas Jefferson

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

--- Thomas Jefferson

My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government.

--- Thomas Jefferson

It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.

--- Thomas Jefferson

To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

   ---Thomas Jefferson

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

The OSC 4H Youth Program (.22LR smallbore and air rifle) began on March 3 in the Warren F. Witzig Memorial Indoor Shooting Range, 6 - 9 pm.  All children and grandchildren (within qualified age limits) of OSC members are invited to participate.  View the flyer or contact Dan, Youth Committee Director, for additional information.
Review some of the indoor range rules
.

Inactive indoor range users and former members have an opportunity to return their access key fobs for a full refund of their range orientation fee.  Check the key fob buyback page or contact Eric for additional information.

Members who earned multiple work vouchers in 2009 will have a chance to win their cash reward during the Multiple Voucher Rewards Drawing after the March 16 General Membership meeting (8 pm ?).  You need not be present to win.

Membership cards have been sent to all renewing members, and the new clubhouse/rifle range access code is now in effect.  If you did not receive a new card but did pay your dues on time, contact Jim.

All shooters will want to check the Range Reservations page when planning your visits to the ranges this spring.  We're going to have a busy and exciting year!

Excitement is building as plans for the 16-yard Trap Range begin to move from paper to reality.  This is Phase 1 of a major shotgun shooting/training facility which will eventually include 16-to-27 yard Trap and 5-Stand.  All shooting positions will eventually be covered.  Target date for the new trap range is June 1.  A discounted target pre-buy offer to help raise funds is available to members.  Details were announced in last month's Chariot.  Contact Mark for more information.  (This is a limited-time offer.)  Watch for progress reports in the Chariot.

The Winter Indoor Bullseye program began January 14 in the Warren F. Witzig Memorial Indoor Shooting Range.  60 rounds, slow, timed, and rapid fire.  Relays start at 5:30 pm,  6:15 pm, and 7:00 pm.  All positions for the entire season are reserved, but open positions are frequently available for walk-on shooters.  The walk-on/refire fee is $5.00 per relay.  The 14-week program runs through April 15.  Contact Randy for additional information.  You can check your shooting position, and you can review your scores and season average.

The Saturday morning Winter NRA 900 Pistol League began January 9 in the Warren F. Witzig Memorial Indoor Shooting Range.  First relay at 9:00 a.m., .22 rimfire or centerfire.  Formal NRA match rules apply.  The league will run for 12 weeks.  For more information, contact Bob DeVoss.

The last monthly indoor defensive/action pistol matche will be held on the Saturday, April 3.  Registration 12:30 to 1:30 pm.(?)  First relay starts at 1:00 pm.(?)  30-round course of fire, FMJ or Solid Round Nose ammo ONLY, 4 - 17 yard range, draw from the holster.  $5 per relay.  Strong-side holster, 2 magazines (minimum), eye and ear protection, and staple gun required.  Contact Randy for additional information.

Indoor Light Rifle Qualification will be held from March 1 through April 26 in the Warren F. Witzig Memorial Indoor Shooting Range.  Any action, any sights, solid round nose .22LR ammo only.  Cost is $35 ($10 juniors).  Contact Ron for additional information.

Anyone who would like to buy into the next order for B27E silhouette targets can do so right here.

Dues & Fees for members did not change in 2010.  However, fees for guests did increase.
Effective January 1,  the Outdoor Range User Fee for guests increased to $5.
(This is the fee which each of your guests must pay when they sign in at the kiosk.)
OSC members have free and unlimited daytime access to the outdoor ranges.

(If you're a frequent guest at the club, perhaps you should consider joining?)

Effective January 1, the indoor range hourly rate is $17 for individual users (members with access fobs) and $22 for groups.

The Executive Committee has eliminated the $5 indoor range guest fee.  The cost to operate the range is just as great for guests as it is for registered users.
Effective January 1, guests of indoor range users must pay for 1 hour of range time at the current hourly rate ($17).

Empty Chamber Indicators are available on the indoor range for use during weekly organized pistol and rifle events.  Please do not take the club's flags which are marked "Property of OSC".

Empty chamber flags are available for sale on the indoor range during weekly events.  (They're in a plastic bag; $1 each.)   New shooters (and anyone else who needs a replacement or a few extra) are encouraged to acquire their own flags -- consider them as accessories essential for any organized event.  I recommend one for every firearm you use in competition; pack it with the firearm so, like your magazines, you always have it when you need one.  You can order empty chamber flags here.  Two styles are available

The scheduled dates of Range Reservations (and closings) has been updated through May.

Enrollment is available for the next NRA Basic Metallic Cartridge Reloading and the NRA Basic Shotgun Shell Reloading courses.  When enough students enroll and agree on a class meeting time, we'll run.   These courses are for beginners.  The metallic cartridge course will cost $55; the shot shell course will cost $45.  ($10 discount if taking both courses.)  Prospective students should visit the course information page to learn more and to submit an enrollment form.  Students should also submit the registration survey.  Contact Eric if you have questions not addressed on the course information page.  Note that the course schedule is adapted to the needs of the students.  We are likely to meet for classroom sessions either 3 times in one week or 1 evening over three consecutive weeks.  Class sizes are limited.  When all spots are full, we start!

Executive Committee Members:  A copy of the Accounts Receivable/Payable Worksheet is available here.  This form must be used with all financial transactions.  No more excuses for the perpetual shortage of paper forms at the clubhouse!  You can download the .PDF format document (41 kb) by right-clicking the link above.

Visit the Rifle Committee's web site for scores and the latest information on OSC rifle events: www.freewebs.com/oscrifle.

The Pistol Committee 2010 Schedule of Events is a work in progress.  The listing also includes select rifle, shotgun, and training events.

Find something wrong at the club?  Report a Problem to Building & Grounds.

All members are reminded that their guests must sign in (print their full name and sign) at the membership information center and sign-in kiosk before shooting and hunting.
Each guest must pay the $5 guest fee.

Follow the instructions on the sign-in form: print and sign names, one name per block, list ranges used, indicate fees paid.  Guests must be escorted at all times.  Failure to comply with this requirement is a serious infraction of your membership agreement and is subject to severe sanction.  (For your privacy and security, members need only sign in using their Member Number and first name, BUT GUESTS MUST USE THEIR COMPLETE NAME.)

To join the OSC you must apply in person.  The best way to join is to become active in an OSC shooting or training program.  You'll need membership sponsors anyhow, so show up, get acquainted, and get active.  Have your sponsor obtain the application for you, or come to a club meeting to apply in person.

Visit the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General Firearms Reciprocity Agreements web site for current information on carrying firearms into other states.

Note: In an effort to reduce clutter, announcements which are more than 3 months old but may still be applicable have been move to a separate page.  Go to Old Announcements to read the old stuff.

OSC is a National Rifle Association affiliated club and a 100% NRA Member club.  Membership in the NRA is required for OSC membership.

"When You're Serious About The Shooting Sports"

The NRA-ILA's FrontLines program is comprised of the most dedicated and active volunteers who are willing to work vigorously with NRA-ILA, especially with your local NRA-ILA Election Volunteer Coordinator, to advance ILA's legislative and political agendas.

FrontLines is not for the faint of heart.  We are looking only for those willing and prepared to actively answer the call to defend our rights!  If you can't pledge a few hours of your time to defend our rights, then NRA-ILA FrontLines isn't for you.
